About the Author



Dr. Stephen L. Rhodes

Dr. Stephen L. Rhodes is Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. His classroom courses include general conducting, instrumental conducting, secondary instrumental music teaching, instrumental methods, and music appreciation. Previously, Dr. Rhodes taught in the Friona and Abilene public schools in Texas. He holds the Doctor of Arts degree in instrumental conducting and the Master of Music degree in brass performance from the University of Northern Colorado. He also earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Abilene Christian University. At the University of Northern Colorado he studied euphonium with Edwin (Buddy) Baker and conducting with Eugene Migliaro Corporon.

Dr. David Hamrick

Dr. Rhodes is the founding director of the Nashville Wind Ensemble, a select group of music educators and professional performers from the Nashville area who are dedicated to performing the highest quality of literature. He also has taught as an adjunct professor at the Blair School of Music of Vanderbilt University, where he directed the Brass Choir. He makes numerous appearances as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for ensembles from the elementary to the university level, including the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts. He has published in BDGuide and The Instrumentalist, and has done extensive research and reading in the history of the wind band. He can be contacted at steve.rhodes@lipscomb.edu.
